How We Coat a Floor

Every job runs the same way, whether it's a two-car garage in Rexburg or a warehouse floor in Idaho Falls.

We diamond-grind the slab. Not acid etching — grinding. Etching leaves a surface film that a coating bonds to instead of the concrete, which is exactly why big-box roll-on kits lift under a hot tire in their second summer. Grinding opens the pores so the coating locks into the slab itself.

We repair before we coat. Cracks get routed and filled, spalled areas get rebuilt, and oil-soaked spots get degreased until there's clean concrete to bond to. Coating over damage just hides it for a season.

Then we build the system. Base coat, flake broadcast if you've chosen a flake floor, scrape and vacuum, and a clear topcoat. You pick the blend and the sheen; we handle everything else and give you a return-to-service date before we start.

Built for Idaho Winters

Concrete in Southeast Idaho fights two things every year.

Freeze-thaw pulls the surface apart. Water works into the pores of an uncoated slab, freezes overnight, expands, and lifts the top layer off in flakes. A few dozen cycles a winter over several winters is how you get the pitted, chalky garage floors you see all over the valley.

Road brine finishes the job. Idaho crews run magnesium chloride on the highways all winter, your tires carry it home, and it melts off onto the slab. Chloride attacks the cement paste holding the aggregate together, and the damage starts below the surface where you can't see it until it's already spalling.

A properly bonded coating stops both, because neither water nor salt ever reaches the concrete again.
